Hypnotherapy
is the use and training of the subconscious mind to influence a person's
thinking and behavior.
Hypnotherapy
can be carried out by a professional hypnotherapist or it can be performed
by one's self.
Self
hypnotherapy will usually involve the use of audio tapes that convey
positive messages or visualisations to the client.
Visualisation
is a technique commonly used in hypnotherapy. This technique uses simple
relaxation approaches to enable the client to relax and make their
subconscious mind more receptive. The visualisations are often scenes in
which the client can feel not only relaxed but positive or free of the
worries affecting them.
Hypnotherapy
has many reported beneficial uses in combating stress, increasing self
esteem and confidence, overcoming stammering and shyness. It has benefits
for some in fighting addiction to tobacco, alcohol or drugs.
Hypnotherapy
should not be confused with hypnotism as seen in stage shows for the
amusement of a paying audience and for no benefit of the person being
hypnotised.
